Tuck into Venice's Redentore Feast

Tuck into Venice's Redentore feast People staying in cheap hotels in Venice this summer will be able to take part in one of the city's most traditional festivities, the Redentore feast.

This celebration takes place every year on the third Saturday of July, which this year falls on July 19th.

The feast, which commemorates the end of the plague that ravaged Europe in the 14th century, is held in Giudecca, an island in the Venetian Lagoon that forms part of Dorsoduro.

Throughout the course of the day, a bridge of boats is created to connect Giudecca to the city and visitors enjoy traditional Venetian dishes.

Many boats gather together during the event, enjoying food and waiting for midnight, when a celebratory firework show illuminates the sky.

Some people then take their vessels to the Venice Lido to watch the sunrise, before the weekend is brought to a close with a gondola regatta and religious celebrations.
