Work by around 90 artists from 77 different countries features in the expansive showcase.

Speaking earlier this year about the title of the event, exhibition director Daniel Birnbaum said: "Making Worlds expresses my wish to emphasise the process of creation. A work of art represents a vision of the world and if taken seriously it can be seen as a way of making a world."

The exhibition is part of the 2009 Venice Biennale, a world-famous cultural institution that also celebrates cinema, theatre, dance, music and other art forms.
