Venice Explores Rome and the Barbarians

Venice explores Rome and the Barbarians People staying in cheap hotels in Venice this year will be able to delve into the fascinating history of the relationship between Rome and the Barbarian civilisations of Europe.

Rome and the Barbarians: The Birth of a New World will be on display at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice until July 20th.

At the end of the second century, the Roman conquest of Europe was challenged by Barbarian warriors from Scandinavia, central Europe and Asian steppes.

By the end of the fifth century, Barbarian fighters had driven back the Roman armies and claimed the western part of the great civilisation's empire.

After taking over Roman territories, the Barbarians took on Roman knowledge, customs and religion, eventually leading to the birth of a new western civilisation.

The fascinating exhibition at the Palazzo Grassi will explore the centuries of conflict and coexistence between these two cultures and including thousands of pieces acquired from across Europe, some of which have never before been on public display.
