Venice Tips Its Hat to Giuseppe Santomaso

Venice tips its hat to Giuseppe Santomaso While people staying in cheap hotels in Venice this year may not have heard of Giuseppe Santomaso on their arrival, there is a good chance they will be familiar with him when they leave the city.

Celebrating the anniversary of the Venetian master's birth, the Giorgio Cini Foundation is hosting a temporary exhibition between April 12th and July 13th.

The wide-ranging exploration will look at Santomaso's genesis as an artist to his full maturity.

After taking his artistic training at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts in 1932, Santomaso was invited to participate in the city's Biennale festival just two years later.

He was interested in avant-garde art and was best known for his abstract pieces and his work in founding progressive art groups and supporting new movements.

The exhibition at the Giorgio Cini Foundation will not focus exclusively on Santomaso, however, as his work will be compared with other artists including Renato Birolli and Toti Scialoja.
