Venice to Explore American Art
Art lovers staying in cheap hotels in Venice this year will be able to explore the growth of American culture between 1850 and 1950.
From June 28th until October 12th, Venice's Peggy Guggenheim Collection will host the exhibition Coming of Age, which will explore a century of American art.
The period that will form the subject of the exhibition was one of massive change for US culture, with art evolving from the provincial to the international and the literal to the abstract.
Pieces in the display are taken from the Addison Gallery in Massachusetts, which is renowned for its collection.
As well as looking at stylistic and aesthetic developments in art, the exhibition also provides a commentary on the dramatic changes that took place in the physical and social landscape of America between 1850 and 1950.
Visitors will find the Peggy Guggenheim Collection on Palazzo Venier dei Leoni in the Dorsoduro district of Venice.
