Venice to Salute a Great Collector

Venice to salute a great collector Art lovers staying in cheap hotels in Venice this year will be able to take part in a tribute to the great Umbrian art collector Mario Taragoni.

Venice's Institute of Science, Literature and the Arts will host an exhibition of the work of the macchiaioli until July 27th.

The macchiaioli were a group of Tuscan painters who began a trend in the second half of the 19th century of painting outdoors and capturing natural light, shade and colour.

They preceded the more famous impressionists, who pursued similar methods of working in France.

Taragoni built up an extensive and prestigious collection of work by the macchiaioli between the two world wars, particularly after World War II.

Works in the Venice exhibition include masterpieces by artists such as Silvestro Lega, Giovanni Fattori, Telemaco Signorini, Mario Puccini and many more.
