Places of interest in Venice

Santa Maria Gloriosa del Frai, this cosy little bar is ideal in the winter for sipping hot chocolate and watching as the world goes by. The bar is by the famous old church of Santa Maria Gloriosa del Frai.

Torcello was once during the middle ages the bubbling hub of Venice. See the mosaics in the Santa Maria Assunta, then climb the bell tower for great views of the city and lagoon.

If you’re looking for some sacred art then check out Museo Dioceasano di Arte. This gallery is tucked away beside the bridge of sighs and gives you the chance to see Tintoretto’s St Catherine cycle.

Dinning out in Venice

Dinning out in Venice is not as expensive as you might think, and here are few places that would not break the bank.

For under £10.00 try out the Al Pescador at Campo San Giacometto 125/126 San Polo. This lively bar near the Rialto Bridge has a great selection of snacks and drinks. 

For under £20.00 try the Anice Stellato at Fondamenta Della Sensa, 3272 Cannaregio.

This cosy restaurant is tucked away in the residential Cannaregio offers great value for money.

For under £35.00 you could try the L’Avogaria offering traditional Venetian cuisine with impeccable contemporary design. The restraunt is located at Calle Lunga san Barnaba/Calle del Avogaria.

Venice Nightlife

For a low-key start to the evening try out the Bar Centrale at Piscina Frezzeria, 1659b San Marco, this bar has Venice elegance and sophistication in abundance.

If your looking for some live music then head for Torino and Notte this bar hosts regular concerts that can spill into the square, and is very popular with students.

For those who like there nights to last as long as possible the head for Club Vecchia Malvasia. The club is open from Wednesday till Saturday and stays open till early in the morning.

Venice Day Trip

For a quick break from Venice, head out to the village of Passariano just outside Udine. The Baroque Villa Manin hosts contemporary art exhibitions, as well as having fabulous gardens of its own.

Getting from Venice Airport (Marco Polo)

Water Taxi
You can book the water taxi at the Consorzio Motoscafi desk located in the arrival hall. The cost of a water taxi direct to your hotel is 80 euros.

Bus
There is a bus service run by ATVO that operates an express service taking only 20 minutes, running twice an hour. The bus takes you directly to Piazzale Roma and cost just 3 euros.

Car Hire
There are several major suppliers based in the arrival hall, such as Hertz, Budget and Europcar.
