Vitruvian Man Goes on Display in Venice
Guests staying in cheap hotels in Venice during Christmas and New Year can look forward to seeing one of the world's most renowned drawings.
This is because the northern Italian city is displaying Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man until January 10th at the Gallerie dell'Accademia.
Because the iconic drawing, which is thought to have been created in 1487, is only displayed occasionally, it promises to be a real treat for city breakers heading to Venice this winter.
The drawing is said to represent the synthesis of western culture and man's double natures, both physical and spiritual.
Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man is one of the most widely recognised images in the world, and has been used on the back of a one euro coin and NASA astronauts' jackets.
The Gallerie dell'Accademia houses a further 25 da Vinci drawings, with the famous museum located on the south bank of the Grand Canal.
Holidaymakers are advised to book their tickets in advance for the museum, because it can get busy during holiday seasons.
