A Good Bash

A good bash If there is one sport which Japan is uniquely famous, it is Sumo, the ancient art of becoming 20 stone and pushing ones opponent out of a small ring.

This fascinating sport is displayed at its best in Japan's biggest Sumo competition, the Nagoya Basho, which will this year be held from July 8th to 22nd in the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium.

Visitors will be able to marvel at the immense force but also surprising range of skills and dexterity of these huge men as they battle it out in the arena.

In addition to the wrestling, the city of Nagoya has a range of attractions for visitors staying in cheap hotels.

Top of any must-see list are the Atsuta Shrine, one of the most important in Japan, plus Nagoya castle.

For a great view of the city, visitors can climb up the Nagoya tower, a transmitter tower which bears a vague resemblance to the Eiffel tower and has two observation decks.
