A Grand Affair

A grand affair Holidaymakers heading to Japan this spring will be able to enjoy one of the biggest spectacles in the country as the Sanja Matsuri festival takes place in Tokyo.

Held on May 19th and 20th, this festival is one of the city's Three Grand Festivals and is by far the biggest of the trio.

A host of portable shrine processions make their way through Tokyo, with millions of spectators lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the festivities.

These processions are made up of bearers dressed in traditional festive garb, with other participants also taking to wearing the quaint clothes.

In addition to the main processions, visitors can enjoy a variety of street entertainment as dancers, singers, bands and actors do their best to keep the crowds thoroughly amused.
