Have a Basho at Sumo

Have a Basho at Sumo Those who fancy seeing one of the things Japan is most famous for can do so in Osaka in the March Basho, one of the biggest Sumo wrestling events in the country.

Held from March 11th to the 25th at the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, the competition features not merely irresistible force meeting irresistible force, but high skill as competitors use a number of different moves and throws to attempt to down their opponent or push them out of the ring.

Apart from the wrestling, the city of Osaka offers a huge range of things to see and do for visitors staying in cheap hotels.

These include the historic Osaka castle, which is over 400 years old and whose capture in the 16th century played a major role in the unification of Japan, Shinto temples like the Sumiyoshi grand shrine and the Buddhist temple of Shitenno-ji.

Osaka is also renowned for its food, championing the motto "eat until you drop", with culinary delights from all over the world.
