Midosuji Magic
Anyone wanting to see what life is like on the busy streets of Japan can enjoy a festival which makes the streets of Osaka especially busy.
The Midosuji parade takes place in October every year (2007 date to be confirmed) along the Midosuji Boulevard, a long thoroughfare which stretches for miles through the heart of the city.
While other parades might celebrate cultural traditions, religious festivals or age-old institutions, this parade is unambiguously about the future and the desire of the city to become a booming 21st century metropolis.
The usual array of bands, dancers, floats, costumed marchers and others will be present, providing colour, noise and fun for the thousands lining the boulevard.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Osaka will be able to see plenty of shrines, temples and traditional culture, but one of the biggest highlights is the culinary quality and variety that can be enjoyed in a city famous for its food.
