Take a Hike

Take a hike Visitors to Japan in summer who fancy doing something energetic can do just that when the Mount Fuji peak climbing season begins on July 1st.

Running until August 31st, this period is the one that is most popular for climbing the 3,776 metre (12,388 ft) peak, when the most facilities and transport is available to enable visitors from far and near to make an ascent of this Japanese icon.

The mountain is measured in stations, with various huts and other buildings marking each one, from the first station at the foot of the mountain and the tenth at the summit.

During the season public transport can take visitors to the fifth station from where climbs to the summit are made, with various public facilities including refreshments available on the way.

Climbers need to come well prepared, with sunscreen for the hot weather on the lower slopes and cold weather gear for the upper areas, as well as being aware of the effects of altitude.

Visitors can stay in cheap hotels in the nearby cities of Gotemba, Fuji-Yoshida or Fujinomaya.
