The Big Basho
Those who fancy indulging in one of Japan's most culturally distinct activities of watching enormously bulky men wrestling each other while in a state of near nakedness can do so in style in Tokyo this September.
Between September 9th and September 23rd, visitors staying in cheap hotels in the Japanese capital can enjoy the Autumn Basho, where the biggest stars around (literally) clash in the Kokugikan Sumo Hall, immovable object meeting immovable object in a bid to throw the opponent out of the ring or pin them to the floor.
As well as enjoying these titanic struggles, visitors can also see a wide range of attractions in a huge city that combines age-old traditions with the most bewildering modern technology.
Amid the neon, skyscrapers and fast trains, Tokyo has plenty of temples, palaces and pavilions, plus traditional art and cuisine.
The most notable of these historic and cultural attractions is the Imperial Temple, home of the emperor.
