The Main Event

The main event Visitors to Nagoya in Japan will have a fine opportunity to experience local Shinto culture in hands-on fashion at the Atsuta Jingu Shrine in June.

On June the 5th, the main festival of the year takes place, when offerings of flowers and tea are brought up to the temple, with a large lantern-bearing procession in the evening illuminating the whole vicinity, the temple website explains.

Visitors attending the event can gain a closer understanding of the traditions and beliefs represented in this, one of the main shrines in Japan and host to over 70 festivals and millions of visitors every year.

Atsuta Jingu is based close to the centre of Nagoya, where visitors staying in cheap hotels can enjoy a wide range of attractions.

Historic buildings include Nagoya Castle and numerous other shrines and temples, while visitors can also enjoy Higashiyama Park with its Sky Tower, offering panoramic views, plus plenty of good nightlife.
