A Wheelie Big Event
The Netherlands has always been regarded as a good place to get around on two wheels owing to its flatness, but visitors to the town of Assen this summer will see some bikes moving at a less than leisurely pace.
June 30th sees the motorcycling Moto GP take place, with 500cc motorbikes hurtling round the course, leaning at extraordinary angles as they take corners, occasionally suffering spectacular falls and ending with the triumphant wheelie of the winner.
Fans of sport on wheels can revel in the atmosphere with thousands of others as the likes of Valentino Rossi, Chris Vermeulen, Carlos Checa and reigning champion Nicky Hayden renew their rivalry.
The race is the 10th out of 18 in the GP series, which means the leader board should be taking shape but the identity of the winner will be far from clear.
Assen has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels.
