Amsterdam Spectacular

Amsterdam spectacular One of the most unique events on the international calendar, fans of something a little different are likely to love Hartjesdag.

The annual cross-dressing celebration has recently become a focal point for gay culture in the city, with the Zeedijk playing host to the large number of drag kings and queens taking part.

However, as events portal Whatsonwhen notes, its history extends far beyond the present day, having originated prior to the 19th century, with August 19th being the only day when poor locals could hunt for deer.

Quite how the celebration of food has evolved into a cross-dressing bonanza is unclear, but who cares, it's a great party!

Amsterdam is a firm favourite among holidaying Brits, many of whom enjoy the city for its well-documented dubious delights. However, great culture and art can be found among the madams and marijuana, including a stunning collection of Vincent van Gogh's artwork.
