Amsterdam to Become World Book Capital

Amsterdam to become world book capital The city of Amsterdam will become a centre of literary appreciation and learning this year when it serves as the World Book Capital.

People staying in cheap hotels in Amsterdam will be at the centre of the activity if they are in the city on April 23rd, when its tenure as World Book Capital officially begins.

A number of themed events will take place across Amsterdam, with internationally-renowned authors and authorities on literature in attendance.

Throughout the year there will be activities ranging from children's parades to trade-only international conferences, with plenty in-between to pique the interest of visitors of all ages.

In addition to the literary offerings this year, Amsterdam will also be catering for its art lovers, with a number of high-profile exhibitions taking place at its galleries and museums.

The Van Gogh Museum will host a display of the work of John Everett Millais, one of the foremost English Pre-Raphaelite painters, until May 18th this year.
