Places of Interest in Amsterdam
Jordaan is a beautiful area with 17th century houses and courtyards. These houses were known as almshouses, this area still remains one of Amsterdam’s hidden gems.
Museumplein is one of the wealthiest areas in Amsterdam. Here the streets are wide with grand houses lining the sides. Museumplein is home to the Museums of Van Gogh and Rijks. Also in Museumplein you will find many boutiques of PC Hoofstraat.
Amsterdam Day Out
If you can find time and want to get away for Amsterdam for a few hours, then try heading for Zwolle. It will take just two hours by train, the city centre of Zwolle is located in the heart of the medieval ruins. This is a quaint city and offers an alternative view to Dutch life, from Amsterdam.
Dinning out in Amsterdam
For under £10.00 try out the Shape All in Centre at 2-6 Hugo de Grootstraat. Here you can eat healthy on a diverse range of juices, shakes and healthy sandwiches.
For those who are not so health conscious, then try Saskia’s Huiskamer restaurant at 203 Albert Cuypstraat. Dinner here would cost under £20.00 and starts at 19.30 were you could enjoy a four-course meal in an extremely well relaxed atmosphere.
For under £35.00 the College Restaurant at 1 Roelof Hartsraat closes to Museeumplein. This college restraunt offers up some great traditional Dutch food, made by interns working alongside professional chefs.
Night Out in Amsterdam
Starting of on a low-key check out De Balie, on a corner of Leidsplein this café/ restraunt is open for lunch and dinner.
If you like the sound of live music then head for Muziekebouw on the ij. This venue is just a few minutes walk from Centraal station, were you can see live modern bands performing.
For those who enjoy a late night out make your way over to De Melkweg or Milkway as its also known as. This venue hosts bands as well as DJ’s and plays until the early hours.
Getting From Amsterdam Airport (Schipol)
Train
There are seven trains every hour from the Airport to the city centre. The journey time is only 20 minutes and costs 3.40 euros single and 6.00 euros return.
Taxi
Taxicabs are waiting outside the arrival hall, and they should cost no more than 40.00 euros into the city centre.
Car Hire
All the main car hire companies have desks in the arrival hall, they include Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Budget and Europcar.
