Discover Millais in Amsterdam

Discover Millais in Amsterdam Those not already familiar with John Everett Millais will have the opportunity to combine a discovery of the artist's work with a stay in a cheap hotel in Amsterdam in February.

From February 15th the Dutch capital's Van Gogh Museum will explore the life and work of the painter, who is seen as the foremost member of the English Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

Millais' ornate, intricately detailed paintings made him Britain's most successful artist in the latter half of the 19th century.

Many of his best-known paintings were imbued with a peaceful, dreamlike character, including his depiction of Ophelia, which is inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet and the wife of the play's eponymous character.

This work has been loaned to the Van Gogh Museum by the Tate of London.

Art lovers staying in cheap hotels in Amsterdam can catch the Millais exhibition between February 15th and May 18th.
