Rotter Good Place to See Ships
Every port has a history, with many a famous sailing tradition or ship cruising in or out down the years, but Rotterdam goes out of its way to ensure its own maritime history is comprehensively presented at the Maritime Museum.
Open right through to May 1st, the museum offers a range of exhibitions charting maritime history, with current displays tracing the voyages from the Dutch colonies to Mecca, carrying muslims on pilgrimages, the 17th century Corpus Christi sea charts and the Nedlloyd model collection.
Entry is €5 (£3.36) for adults and €3 for children aged four to 15.
The largest port in Europe also has other attractions for visitors staying in cheap hotels.
Boat trips in the harbour or up the river Maas can be enjoyed, or, for those who fancy a higher view, the 185 metre (607 ft) Eurotower offers a spectacular panorama.
