Santa Claus to Arrive in Amsterdam
People staying in cheap hotels in Amsterdam in November may get the unmissable opportunity to see Santa Claus as he arrives in the Dutch capital.
The iconic figure, known as Sinterklaas in Dutch, will come to Amsterdam on November 16th, bringing joy to hundreds of children and possibly some parents as well.
He will proceed through the city, followed by festive floats, bands, elves and other seasonal visitors.
Santa Claus will make an impressive entrance by boat on the river Amstel via the canals of Nieuwe Herengracht and Schippersgracht, finishing his tour at the Scheepvaartmuseum at around midday.
While he is a similar cause for celebration as in the UK or the US, Sinterklaas is a slightly different character in Holland, hailing from Spain rather than Lapland or the North Pole.
People planning trips to Amsterdam over the Christmas period will be able to visit several markets providing opportunities to pick up some unusual gifts.
