Van Gogh - a Creator of More Than Just Sunflowers
Vincent Van Gogh is best known for his Sunflowers paintings and for cutting off part of his own ear, but people staying in cheap hotels in Amsterdam this year will learn that there was more to his art that just painting.
The Van Gogh Museum will host an exhibition dedicated entirely to the artistic genius's scribbles until March 30th.
While 'scribbles' may not suggest work of much artistic merit, the showcase is full of detailed and absorbing pencil drawings.
Van Gogh drew on a range of materials, from ordinary paper to the backs of envelopes, the endpaper of his sketchbook and the reverse sides of paintings.
Also included in the 'scribbles' exhibition are a number of the Dutch artist's full sketchbooks and letters to his brother Theo and other acquaintances.
Owing to their sensitivity to light, sketches and drawings are rarely on show in public and this display brings a number of works together for the first time.
