Van Gogh Museum to Put Treasures on Show

Van Gogh Museum to put treasures on show Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Amsterdam over the coming months will be able to visit an exhibition presenting a number of important pieces from the Van Gogh Museum library.

The showcase, which will be open until July 6th, follows on from the 40th anniversary of the library.

Looking at work from the 19th century, the exhibition will explore the significance of this era for the art world and the changes that occurred during this time.

Art displays became publicly accessible for the first time in the 1800s and art reviews began to be published.

The emergence of new printing methods also led to the development of illustrated magazines and artistic reproductions in books, a phenomenon that was of interest to artists including Van Gogh himself.

Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum owns a number of the great artist's works in its collection, including landscapes, self portraits and still lifes, with one of his famous depictions of sunflowers among them.
