World Press Photo Tour Begins in Amsterdam

World Press Photo tour begins in Amsterdam The international exhibition tour of the 2008 World Press Photo contest will kick off in Amsterdam in April.

Every year, a display of the winning images of the World Press Photo competition travels around the world, forming the best known activity in the organisation's calendar.

The tour will begin at Oude Kerk in the Netherlands on April 29th, as part of the official prize-giving ceremony.

It will then set off around the world, visiting countries as diverse and distant as Australia, Taiwan, Japan, Chile and Bahrain.

The exhibition serves as a showcase for creativity and expression in photojournalism and aims to stimulate the work of press photographers around the world. It is known for featuring stark and sometimes disturbing images of the modern world.

Amsterdam's Oude Kerk, literally meaning old church, is one of the earliest parish churches thought to have been built in the Dutch capital, with roots stretching back to the late 13th century.
