A Wild Week in Wellington

Wellington Cup Week, the city's premier horseracing event, takes place every January and never fails to provide plenty of opportunities for fun and excitement for all.

Held at Trentham Racecourse, the event kicks off on January 19th with a wine and racing festival to get attendees in the mood.

However January 26th is the date that racing fans staying in hotels in New Zealand should mark in their diary - the final day of the festival, when the all important Wellington Cup race itself is contested.

According to New Zealand's official thoroughbred horseracing organisation, Trentham racecourse is widely acknowledged as having one of the best track designs in Australasia and has seen a number of world records broken over the years.

Visitors can find the course by heading towards Upper Hutt from Wellington, turning off the state highway onto Ferguson Drive at Silverstream and turning onto Sutherland Avenue to follow road signs.

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and is located on the southern tip of the country's north island.
