Born to Eat Wild

Born to eat wild For those who fancy a holiday which includes trying something unusual to eat, New Zealand may offer just the thing in the town of Hokitika.

The Wildfoods festival on March 10th offers the ultimate in strange eating, with a range of weird and maybe wonderful comestibles that makes I'm a Celebrity look like a trip to the delicatessen.

Among the delicacies on offer are huhu grubs, toffee-coated grasshoppers, pigs eyes in macaroni cheese and chocolate chirp cookies for cricket lovers.

Tickets cost NZ$25 (£8.78) if bought in advance or $30 on the day.

Apart from the odd food, visitors staying in cheap hotels in the area will find a wealth of things to see and do.

Set on the west coast of South Island, Hokitika is located in a region with fabulous wild scenery.

Those looking out to see can enjoy whale watching and boating, while inland the Southern Alps offer hiking, glaciers and adventure sport.
