For those who fancy combining nature with tradition and some partying the Pohutukawa festival in New Zealand offers a chance to do all that between November 24th and December 10th.
First held in 2000, the festival celebrates the crimson-coloured pohutukawa tree, a New Zealand icon, centred on the towns of Thames and Coromandel.
The programme includes concerts, barbeques, scuba diving, a treasure hunt, a golf tournament, cafe crawl and many more activities.
Proceeds from the festival go towards Project Crimson, which aims to conserve the plant.
Coromandel is on the North Island of New Zealand, which offers plenty of attractions for the tourist exploring this beautiful country.
The Coromandel Peninsula offers beautiful coastline, plenty of pohutakawa trees and the hills of the Coromandel and Moehau ranges.
Boiling mud pools at Rotorua and the vibrant city of Auckland are within 90 minutes drive of the town.
The Coromandel area has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
