Run Away, Sail Away

Run away, sail away The city of sails welcomes those who prefer to do things on two feet when the Auckland Marathon takes place at the end of October.

The 26-mile, 385-yard course winds its way around New Zealand's largest city on October 28th.

Starting at Devonport on the north side of Auckland Harbour, the race winds its way round north and then west before crossing Auckland Harbour Bridge and heading into the heart of the city.

For those feeling not quite so fit, there is also a half marathon and there is even a quarter marathon for those who want to take in a more bite-sized challenge.

Whether running or watching, visitors staying in cheap hotels in the city can enjoy a range of great attractions.

These include a trip up the Auckland Tower, the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, sailing in the harbour or visiting a local winery.

Visitors can also enjoy the panoramic view across the city from One Tree Hill, which is now a misnomer as the tree had to be cut down after vandalism a few years ago.
