A Very Cold Shower
March may bring warm weather and sunshine back to many places in Europe, but the far north still remains the frozen north, with Lillehammer in Norway still able to put on a key winter festival this late in the season.
The Frozen Waterfall festival, held from March 2nd to the 4th, sees live music being played outdoors on a cold night while the vast icy curtain of a waterfall encloses the natural amphitheatre.
Visitors should take a flask and wrap up warm, although the entertainment will hopefully do that.
Those staying in cheap hotels in Lillehammer will have plenty more to do in this small resort 380 miles south of the Arctic Circle.
Lillehammer has a wealth of wintersports facilities, a legacy of hosting the 1994 winter Olympics, making skiing, tobogganing and snowboarding all available, while the frozen lake of Mjosa offers a wealth of ice-bound sports.
