Sea Food and Eat It
Food fanatics looking for a few treats from Davey Jones' larder cold find just what they are looking for in the Norwegian town of Mandal in August, when the Skalldyr (shellfish) Festival takes place.
The annual festival occurs in the second week of the month (exact dates to be confirmed) and offers visitors staying in cheap hotels the chance to tuck in to various seafood dishes, with organisers promising three days of feasting on shrimp, mussels and crayfish, along with lots of music and other entertainment, plus events such as the world shrimp-peeling championships and a fun day for kids.
As well as being a famous seafood destination, Mandal is the southernmost town in Norway and is also a popular holiday resort, having a wealth of beaches, unlike most of Norway's coast.
Chief among these is Sjosanden, a mile-long stretch of golden sand.
