You Can't A-fjord to Miss It
The Norwegian city of Bergen hosts its own film festival from October 18th-25th, featuring around 100 films of many kinds from Norway and around the world.
The main centre for the festival will be the Magnus Barfot multiplex cinema, with a number of others screening films.
Film buffs will be glad to know that Bergen has plenty of accommodation, including a number (to avoid repetition) of cheap hotels, and excellent domestic and international transport links.
As well as attracting film and culture seekers (it was European City of Culture in 2000), the city boasts a picturesque setting, described by its tourist board as "a city with its feet in the sea, its head in the skies and its heart in the right place".
With high mountains and fjords such as Hardanger and Sogn nearby, visitors can easily combine a visit to the festival with a tour around the spectacular scenery of the Nordic coast.
