Be in Pole position to book Lovers of literature may find May a very good time to be in Poland as east meets west in the Warsaw International Book Fair.

Held in the Palace of Culture and Science from May 17th to the 20th, the fair will be open to the public from the second day onwards from 10.00 to 19.00 (17.00 in the last day), with an emphasis on a mixture of international literature in general and that of special guests Ukraine in particular, according to the organisers.

Apart from the book fair, the city of Warsaw has plenty to offer visitors staying in cheap hotels.

The realm of arts and culture is well served and flourishing in the post-communist era, with cultural hubs such as the National Theatre and the Grand Theatre in Warsaw being prominent, while the post-war rebuilding of the city has earned it UN world heritage status.

Historic Warsaw is represented by the Jewish Historical Institute Gallery, tracing the history of the Jewish Ghetto in wartime, while the city has numerous historic palaces, churches and the royal castle.
