Celebrate Chopin's 200th Anniversary in Poland

Celebrate Chopin's 200th anniversary in Poland People who book a cheap hotel in Warsaw this month will be among those who are able to listen to music by Chopin, as the city hosts the Polish National Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.

Until February 7th, music students from Poland and abroad will compete at the University of Music, with just one repertoire: Chopin.

The competition has been running since 1968, but as 2010 marks the anniversary of the composer's birth, the organisers of the event, the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, have promised that this year will be extra special.

Visitors planning a trip in later months might be interested to know that Warsaw will be hosting events, concerts and exhibitions throughout the year to celebrate their national treasure.

Other sites to see in Warsaw include the 13th century Old Town, Krasinski Palace and the elegant Krakowskie Przedmiescie street, which has lines of mansions and palaces, surrounded by gardens. Visitors can also spend an evening at the opera or enjoy the city's many bars and restaurants.
