Head East for Bargains, Travellers Advised

Head east for bargains, travellers advised Cheap hotels in Krakow, Prague and other eastern European hotspots could prove more popular this year following a recommendation of the region as a hotspot for bargain holidays.

According to Abta - The Travel Association, the current situation in central and eastern Europe is comparable to Spain and Greece in the 1970s, with two-course meals available for as little as £5 and beer being sold for less than £1 a pint.

The exchange rate in countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary was described as "alluringly favourable", particularly in the context of the high cost of the euro for Brits.

Cities such as Prague, Krakow and Budapest boast "cosmopolitan chic" alongside historic appeal, according to Abta.

There is also plenty to interest those who like to explore the outdoors on their holidays, with "unspoilt beaches and dramatic countryside" located throughout the region as well as nature reserves.

Flights could also become more affordable for travellers this year if Abta is successful in its bid to persuade the government to scrap the tax on aviation.
