Krakow to Explore Bauhaus

Krakow to explore Bauhaus People with an interest in modern architecture and design will be able to visit an exhibition in Krakow later this year exploring the legacy of Germany's Bauhaus school.

The showcase, entitled Bauhaus twenty-21, will be open at the Polish city's International Cultural Centre from May 8th to July 5th.

Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus school, which was named after a German expression meaning 'house for building', in 1919 having learned his craft under the highly influential German architect Peter Behrens.

Gropius and the two subsequent heads of the school, Hannes Meyer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, pioneered principles that helped create the very foundations on which modern architecture is based.

At the Bauhaus twenty-21 exhibition, people staying in cheap hotels in Krakow will be able to explore the history of architecture and design and also learn about the philosophies and artistic approaches that the school advocated.

Once this display has come to an end, the International Cultural Centre will present a showcase of film, theatre and exhibition posters by Krakow Academy of Fine Arts graduate Alfred Halasa.
