See the Floating of the Wreaths in Krakow
Holidaymakers staying in cheap hotels in Krakow in June may get the chance to enjoy the Floating of the Wreaths, a traditional festival in the Polish city.
Taking place every year on the banks of the Vistula river, this occasion is thought to be one of the largest open-air events in Poland.
The festival sees ceremonial bonfires lit along the embankment and the inhabitants of the city float wreaths down the river.
This tradition traces its roots back to a peaceful pagan ritual, which involved women floating wreaths on the water to predict when, and to whom, they would be married.
In modern times, the festival is characterised by a particularly festive mood, as it is held at the height of the tourist season, at the beginning of the school holidays and on a warm June evening.
Visitors are entertained by a range of shows and events, including live music, theatre performances and a firework display.
