Film buffs who fancy doing it in warm weather can really enjoy themselves at one of Portugal's top cinematic events, the Algarve Film Festival.
Held in various towns in the region but centred on Portimao, the festival sees a range of contests within a contest, including best film by a Portuguese director, best film about nature and the environment, best film with a message of love and peace among men and best film about the Algarve.
Above all, the entrants compete for the best film prize.
When not enjoying a screening, visitors staying in cheap hotels on the Algarve can enjoy wonderful warm weather, sunshine and beaches, with plenty of restaurants and nightlife, watersports and scenery to enjoy.
The area also offers plenty of attractive towns and villages plus a wide range of golf courses for those who like to whack a few balls around.
