Lisbon to Celebrate Gay Cinema

The tenth Lisbon celebration of gay and lesbian cinema is set to take place in 2006.

Running from the 15th to the 24th of September, the event commemorates the struggle against homophobia and for cultural visibility which has taken place in the city.

With over a hundred short films, feature films and documentaries, the festival will concentrate on the issues of homophobia and transphobia to celebrate the anniversary of what organisers call the only exhibition vehicle of alternative cinema in the country.

Describing the event as a "Festival which will always aim to conciliate the issues, the affirmations, and the queries historically represented in lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender cinema with those other issues, affirmations, and queries of our contemporary societies at large", organisers believe it represents evolving values in Europe.

Holidaymakers staying in one of the city's cheap hotels will also have the chance to choose their favourite film, while judges will be doing the same and offering prizes for the best entrants.
