Lisbon Tunes Up Great Orchestras
Lisbon's Grandes Orquestras Mundiais, translated as Great Orchestras of The World, promises to bring sweet music to the ears of local and travellers alike.
The Coliseu dos Recreios is the main venue for the event, which will see orchestras from across the globe plying their trade, featuring internationally acclaimed composers and soloists.
Taking place between October 2006 and March 2007, the series includes performances by Tokyo's NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Fribourg Baroque Orchestra, the Leipzeig Gawendhaus Orchestra and the Bavaria Symphony Radio Orchestra.
Fans of art and culture can also take advantage of a stay in one of the city's cheap hotels and take a trip to the National Art Museum, as a special exhibition is taking place until September 27th 2006.
Some 95 paintings by luminaries such as Cézanne, Manet, Degas, Monet and Renoir are on show, with art from the Italian Renaissance to the mid-20th century displayed.
