Mad for Golf
Golf lovers who fancy watching a tournament in the sun after a cold, wet winter may find just the thing on the Portuguese island of Madeira from March 22nd to the 25th.
Played at the Santo da Serra course, the tournament will feature one-time Open winner Paul Lawrie, along with a number of other tournament winners from recent winners.
Recent victors at the Madeira open include Jean Van de Velde and Bradley Dredge.
Apart from the golf, the beautiful volcanic island of Madeira offers a wide range of attractions for visitors.
The warm weather and the sun complement good beaches and lush scenery, with a nature reserve containing spectacular flora and fauna, a botanical garden and United Nations world heritage status.
Other attractions include the volcanic caves at Sao Vicente and the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte, a popular pilgrimage site.
Madeira has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
