Lisbon has many attractions for visitors, but for those who either enjoy participating in something energetic, or simply like to watch it, the city's marathon takes place on December 3rd.
Starting at the Praca de Comercio in the centre of the city, the course takes in three circular routes, each returning to the start point.
There is also a half marathon for those who do not quite feel up to the main event.
Visitors to Lisbon will also be able to enjoy the warm climate and a wealth of history and culture.
This includes the historic Alfama area, the picturesque Bairro Alto (High Quarter) and the Lisboa City Museum with its emphasis on Portugese life and traditions.

Lisbon also makes a good base to tour the country, with the surrounding Estremadora region being famous for its wines.
