With the summer and the Prom season over in Britain, classical music lovers may be keen to look around some warmer climes for their entertainment this autumn, which makes Lisbon an attractive place to be from October to May as the Gulbenkian Orchestra concert season takes place.

The orchestra plays at the Calouste Gulbenkian auditorium on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays as well as the occasional Wednesday and Saturday, with Lawrence Foster and a number of visiting conductors leading the concerts.

As well as its home performances, the orchestra has several tour dates lined up around Europe during the season.

Visitors to Lisbon will also be able to enjoy the warm climate and a wealth of history and culture.

This includes the historic Alfama area, the picturesque Bairro Alto (High Quarter) and the Lisboa City Museum with its emphasis on Portugese life and traditions.
