Transvision Without Vamp
The name Transylvania may immediately conjure up images of spooky castles, bats and Dracula preparing to drink the blood of his unsuspecting victims, but for visitors in June the cinematic drama is more varied than that.
From June 1st to the 10th, the provincial capital of Cluj Napoca hosts the Transylvania International Film Festival, the only such festival in Romania.
The event will showcase a range of young talents, as well as including workshops and generally seeking to promote cinema across Europe.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Cluj Napoca will also be able to enjoy plenty of traditional Romania architecture, topped out by the towering spire of the cathedral, plus the botanical gardens.
The city is also surrounded by mountains, which offer fine scenery and panoramic views across the city, all making for a contrast to the tales of spooky counts in gloomy castles sleeping in coffins.
