Giacometti Heads to Asia
The south-east Asian city state of Singapore will be hosting the work of Alberto Giacometti this year.
People staying in cheap hotels in Singapore can visit the Giacometti in Asia exhibition at the Singapore Art Museum between May 1st and June 15th.
Giacometti was a Swiss sculptor, painter and printmaker who was best known for his interpretive take on the human form.
He experimented in areas such as cubism and surrealism and was eventually regarded as one of modern art's leading surrealist sculptors.
Giacometti is now considered one of the most important figures in European modernist art, alongside such luminaries as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro and Max Ernst.
His work is in numerous public collections at major galleries around the world, including New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Kunsthaus in Zurich.
The Singapore Art Museum's display of Giacometti's work will include sculptures, lithographs and rare photographs of the artist himself.
