Hot Foot to Singapore

Hot foot to Singapore Culture vultures heading to Singapore in October could be in for a real toe-curler at the Thimithi festival.

The event is part of a time-honoured Hindu custom held at the Sri Mariamman Temple in the Chinatown district, (date to be confirmed), in which devotees engage in fire-walking.

Fascinated visitors staying in cheap hotels will be able to watch this activity, without of course having to join in, a prospect people less brave than the actual participants would surely get cold feet about.

Sri Mariamman Temple itself is also open to visitors.

Thimiti is just one of the many Hindu, Buddhist and Taoist festivals which take place in a fascinating city which combines a wide diversity of cultures, including a few trappings of British colonialism, with an ultra-modern cityscape of skyscrapers and neon.

As a result, it is possible to enjoy a wide experience of sights and traditions, crafts and cuisine.
