Mooncakes in Autumn
Being near the equator, autumn in Singapore has nothing to do with falling leaves and shorter days, but it does have everything to do with partying as the Mid-Autumn Festival kicks off, running from October 6th to November 1st.
Centred on Chinatown, this is a spectacular insight into Chinese art and culture, featuring carnivals and dragons, opera and acrobats amidst the bunting and fireworks.
The river Singapore is also a focal point of the festival, lit up with lights and lanterns, while there is a wide variety of festive food available, particularly the famous Chinese mooncakes, made with a variety of fillings including hard egg yolks, nuts and lotus seeds and topped with images of the moon.
Singapore is a large city with lots of accommodation for visitors, including many cheap hotels.
It has a wide variety of other attractions, from its colonial institutions such as Raffles and the Singapore Turf Racing Club to a rich cultural and culinary diversity
