See the Light in Singapore

See the light in Singapore Singapore has already commenced one of its most stunning spectacles – a six-month run of festivals and celebrations characterised by light shows and displays – and a visit in November would take in some of the best parts of the extravaganza.

Between October 12th and November 18th, the island will celebrate the Hindu festival of Deepavali.

This festival sees Little India buzz with vibrancy as street carnivals and light shows are held to celebrate the triumph of good over evil.

One tenth of Singapore's population is Indian and the communities get involved with the spirit of the event by lighting their own oil lamps to let in light and good fortune.

Then from November 12th to early January 2008 the country launches into its Christmas in the Tropics season – a breathless barrage of feasts, concerts and parties counting down to the period's milestone moments.

Up until November 12th the island also hosts free walking tours that explore the intriguing corners and ethnic enclaves of Chinatown, Kampong Glam and Little India to coincide with the festivals.

Visitors should book their hotel in Singapore quick to ensure they have a good base as they explore the wonders of the island.
