Singapore 'Asia's Entertainment Capital'

Singapore 'Asia's entertainment capital' The Singapore Tourism Board has announced details of a number of upcoming festivals and sporting occasions that it claims are turning the city-state into the "entertainment and event capital of Asia".

All eyes will be on Singapore at the end of this month when it hosts the first Formula One night race on September 28th.

To support the race, there will be a number of events arranged for Singapore GP season from September 20th to October 5th, including the Singapore River Festival and Singapore Biennale 2008.

Singapore will also be the first south-east Asian city to host the Volvo Ocean Race in January 2009.

Another highlight of next year's calendar that people staying in cheap hotels in Singapore will be able to enjoy is the opening of the Marina Bay Sands resort, which will include the city's first casino as well as the ArtScience Museum.

Diyva Panickar of the Singapore Tourism Board said: "Singapore has changed greatly over the past few years and people are constantly overwhelmed with its diversity and variety.

"It is no longer perceived as just a stopover destination and with the wealth of new entertainment facilities and attractions and major world events, is fast becoming the place to visit in Asia for a fun packed and varied holiday, complete with a unique Singaporean twist."
