Singapore Hosts Ultimate Dragon Tug

Singapore will host one of the most impressively named events of the forthcoming calendar in May – the Ultimate Dragon Tug.

This sports contest involves two teams in 12-crew boats competing head to head.

Both boats are restrained by a cable that is tied to the other team's craft via a double-pulley mechanism situated behind both vessels.

Competitors have to row with all their might and sprint forward seven metres. The shared cable pulls tight when the boats come within three of four metres of the victory flag and the teams then have to row against each other to reach the finishing point.

This year's event will feature 100 tug of war matches, with more than 70 teams taking part.

People staying in cheap hotels in Singapore can find the event, which is free to watch, on the Singapore River at One Fullerton on May 10th.

Another sporting event taking place in the city state in May is the International Racing Festival, which will be held at the Singapore Racecourse between May 10th and 18th.
